Joined the band July 9, 1998 after Nick Menza who left because he claimed to have cancer in his right knee (which according to Dave wasn't true). Jimmy filled in for Nick during the period of his surgery and later took over the role completely after the band thought that it was best to move on. He has done a great job filling in for Nick.

DeGrasso had developed history with members of Megadeth after meeting them first on tour while in Suicidal Tendencies, and then later while performing with Alice Cooper.
